Description: This course will focus on the fundamentals of drawing: elements of art, composition, proportion, spatial relationships, perspective, volume, light and shadow, value and texture. The course will enhance students’ observational sensibilities and enable their application to their work. The notion of visual perception will be explored and students will learn how to record what they observe. Students will become familiar with various ways in which the elements, principles of design and composition improve their creative approach and critical judgment.

Description: In this class, students will dive deep into other cultures from around the world, through their rich and diverse food. Each week, we will learn about a different country, make a popular meal from their culture, and create a recipe book full of wonderful meals from around the world.

Description: Students will identify how they, as individuals, think critically and explore common perceptions and misconceptions that exist about logic. The activities within this unit incorporate individual reflection by students, small group work, and larger group/class discussions, and endeavor for students to learn how to discern true and untrue statements using logic and fact. Students are presented with various statements and are tasked with determining whether these statements are factually true and whether they are logically valid. We recognize that students may have limited background factual knowledge before starting these activities, so some exercises are intended more as a way for students to evaluate how they think and how to create logically valid statements. By learning how to identify logically and factually true and untrue statements, students will, by the end of this unit, be able to create and evaluate statements (even with limited factual knowledge) and critique common misconceptions.

Description: This is a beginner’s course for players. Attendees will be instructed on the fundamentals of basketball from dribbling, passing, and shooting, to effective offensive and defensive stance and positioning, to proper footwork and rebounding skills. We will also go deep into developing the proper form, mechanics, and technique of shooting. We will learn team skills and offensive sets adaptable to all levels of play. Our goal is for all kids to come away with a strong foundation upon which they can continue a lifelong enjoyment of the game, whether they continue playing on their own in their backyards, driveways, or public parks to comfortably, capably and confidently with their friends!

Health-This course addresses topics in mental health, social health, nutrition, physical fitness, substance abuse, human development, and disease prevention. The course emphasizes the physical and emotional benefits of making healthful choices and discusses consequences of unhealthful behaviors. Critical thinking is encouraged through the use of open-ended questions, assessments, and videos that present real-life situations. Built using responsive design principles, this HTML course is mobile-friendly, meets accessibility requirements, and includes expanded projects and assessments (including performance assessments.)

PE-Physical Education I introduces topics to help you understand the importance and meaning of true physical fitness. You will learn how to apply different approaches to help you achieve a healthy weight and keep your bones and muscles strong. At the beginning of the course, your lessons will focus on providing you with the tools and knowledge you need to design, maintain, and build a fitness routine. To support your fitness routine and safety, you will learn about the proper exercise techniques for aerobic conditioning, strength training, and flexibility. Toward the end of the course, you will receive an overview of several different types of fitness careers, learn how to locate fitness resources in your community, and discover the social, mental, and physical benefits of exercise.

Some of the recipes we will explore include soups, pasta, dips, desserts and more!

Description: This class builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature through outdoor exploration. Spending time in nature can build their confidence. There’s a lot less structure than most types of indoor play and they can choose how they interact with the nature around them. Food Around the World

DK-5th Grade

Description: In this class, students will dive deep into other cultures from around the world, through their rich and diverse food. Each week, we will learn about a different country, make a popular meal from their culture, and create a recipe book full of wonderful meals from around the world.

Exploring Nature

DK-5th Grade

Material Fee: $50

Description: This class builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature through outdoor exploration. Spending time in nature can build their confidence. There’s a lot less structure than most types of indoor play and they can choose how they interact with the nature around them. This gives them practice managing their own actions and encourages creativity and imagination. Being outdoors can also teach them responsibility.

Choir

1st-5th Grade

Description: Students will be exposed to choral elements, such as ensemble singing, blend, and vocal techniques. Students will sing and perform a variety of music in both formal and informal situations, both individually and in an ensemble.

Basketball

3rd-5th Grade

Material Fee: $50Description: This is a beginner’s course for players. Attendees will be instructed on the fundamentals of basketball from dribbling, passing, and shooting, to effective offensive and defensive stance and positioning, to proper footwork and rebounding skills. We will also go deep into developing the proper form, mechanics, and technique of shooting. We will learn team skills and offensive sets adaptable to all levels of play. Our goal is for all kids to come away with a strong foundation upon which they can continue a lifelong enjoyment of the game, whether they continue playing on their own in their backyards, driveways, or public parks to comfortably, capably and confidently with their friends! This class is held outdoors weather permitting.
